Term 2 has been going sooooooo fast. I don't know how many Art lessons have already gone by. I only know that it's~ --- (FUN!)
We're finally starting mask making in these weeks.
In week 2, we started our first lesson on mask making. Firstly, we had to use a big piece of plastic bag that can fit our head (well 1 1/2 times my head). Then Ms Hampton told us to shove a whole of newspaper until it's sturdy and robust. It took at least 40~60 newspaper to stuff in hard enough in the plastic bag. (It took 15 mins!!!!!!!) But it was a great experience to know what it's suppose to be like.
At one stage, Ms Hampton had explained that when we finish making our outside shapes of the mask. And when we fully paper-machaed the whole thing. We'll cut open the hole under the head of the mask where we stuffed all our newspaper in. Then we'll pull out all of the newspaper and we can fit our head inside. I thought it was quite smart to do it that way {in my opinion}. ^^
Anyway, in the 3rd week of school. I started making the ears and Ms Hampton used my mask as a demonstration to the class on how to make a beautiful nose where it connects smoothley up to the head, and also how to make eyes. We had to make an eye pocket where we can stuff a ball of newspaper in it to make eyes stand out. It was absolutely clever and wonderful and EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was lucky, because I didn't need to do the work, instead Ms Hampton did all of my work when she used my mask as a demonstration. At the very end of Week 3's last lesson of Art, I spent the whole lesson drawing a peacock's back tail {It was soooooo hard, because of all the beautiful patterns.} And I had to take 20 minutes of cutting it out. [After that, my whole right hand was swollen and cut and red.] :( It really wasn't a fun thing to do.
Oh well, it was a great to weeks to have experience the introduction of mask-making. I could mask-make later myself when I'm free in the holidays :D
Hope everyone enjoys mask-making. o_O
